Why your recruitment agency should be using AI yesterday

AI for recruitment agencies. CV screening, job specs, candidate matching, and the admin that's costing you placements.

Recruitment is one of those industries where the gap between agencies using AI and agencies not using it is going to get brutal. Fast.

Not because the technology is magic. Because the work is so perfectly suited to it. Half of what a recruiter does every day is reading, writing, matching, and chasing. That's exactly what AI is good at.

If you're running an agency and you haven't started yet, here's what you're leaving on the table.

CV screening

This is the big one. A role goes live, 80 CVs land in the inbox, and someone has to read every single one. Compare them against the spec. Sort the possibles from the definites from the absolute-nos. It takes hours. And it's the same process every time.

AI can screen all 80 in minutes. Not replacing the recruiter's judgment. Giving them a ranked shortlist. "These 12 are strong matches. These 8 are worth a look. These 60 aren't close." Your recruiter still makes the calls, still picks up the phone. But they're starting with 12 instead of 80.

I talked to an agency in Nottingham with 6 consultants. Each one was spending about 5 hours a week just on initial CV screening. That's 30 hours a week across the business. Even cutting that in half is 15 hours. That's 15 hours more on the phone with candidates and clients. Which is where placements actually come from.

Job spec writing

Every recruiter knows the pain. Client gives you a vague brief. "We need a project manager, good comms, team player." And you need to turn that into a proper job spec that's going to attract the right people.

AI can draft a solid job spec from a rough brief in about 30 seconds. You edit it, add the bits that matter, make sure the salary and location are right. Done. What used to take 45 minutes takes 10.

Candidate matching

Compliance documents. Right to work checks. Reference requests. Contract generation. Interview scheduling. Feedback chasing.

AI makes you faster. Dramatically faster. The agencies that adopt it will place more candidates in less time with fewer consultants. The ones that don't will find themselves consistently beaten to the punch by competitors who move quicker.

That's not a prediction. It's already happening in London. It just hasn't hit the Midlands properly yet.

You don't need a tech team for this
